ODU basketball team adds size in forward Daniel Pounds

Daniel Pounds, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward from Atlanta, is the latest addition to Old Dominion’s 2023 basketball recruiting class, Monarchs coach Jeff Jones announced Wednesday.

The 205-pound Pounds averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds as a senior at Newton County High and played in Georgia’s Final Four after leading Forest Park High to the state’s Sweet 16.

“Daniel is an extremely athletic young man with a very engaging personality,” Jones said in a statement. “Because of his athleticism, he has a very high ceiling and because of his personality, he will instantly be a hit for Monarch Nation.”

Pounds played AAU ball for Atlanta Xpress and is currently playing a post-graduate season at Spire Institute.

“In my heart, this is the right place for me to be,” Pounds said. “ODU is more than just a school or an organization to be a part of; it is a family and a group of people that cares about their students and players in and out of school. I am looking forward to my four years at Old Dominion.”
