Off-duty Chicago cop exchanges shots with gunman on West Side, police say. No one hit

An off-duty Chicago police officer exchanged shots with a gunman after he stopped at an intersection on the West Side Tuesday night, authorities said.

No one was injured, but the officer’s personal car was damaged, police said.

The officer was stopped at a stop sign in the 700 block of North Noble Street around 9:35 p.m. when someone armed with a handgun got out of a silver sedan, police said. The officer announced who he was, and the two exchanged shots.

The gunman sped away and no one was in custody Wednesday morning.
