Off-duty NYPD officer allegedly punched wife in Brooklyn, arrested: police

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested after allegedly striking his wife in Brooklyn Sunday, police said.

Avijit Boiragee, 33, was arrested just before 4 a.m. in Brooklyn’s 61st Precinct, which covers Sheepshead Bay and part of Gravesend, according to the NYPD.

Police say Boiragee got in an argument with his wife that turned physical when Boiragee allegedly struck her arm with a closed fist. On Sunday, he pleaded not guilty to assault and harassment charges, court records show.

Boiragee was suspended without pay, according to the NYPD. He started working as a police officer in 2021 and he most recently worked in Brooklyn, city records show.
