Off-season concerts will keep Ocean City laughing and rocking

The weather is getting chilly and festival season is cooling off on Delmarva. However, live entertainment is still taking place at indoor concert venues.

In Ocean City, one such establishment is hosting shows that are usually more the norm during the summer months. The schedule at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center (which is part of the Roland E. Powell Convention Center complex) includes comedy and music by famous faces.

Comedian Bill Engvall is nearing the end of a national road outing titled Here’s Your Sign, It’s Finally Time: The Farewell Tour. He will play two shows in one night at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Nov. 19, (and the remaining tickets to both are priced at $57).

Comedian Bill Engvall will give two performances in one day at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov.19.

The early show at 5 p.m. has a mere smattering of tickets left, and will most likely be sold out by show time. The later concert at 8 p.m. has tickets left in all three of the rear sections — but again, that is likely to change by Saturday.

Engvall, who last year announced he would be retiring after a 40-year television and performing career, will end the tour by filming his last standup comedy special Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve) in Utah.

Looking ahead to the new year at the Ocean City Performing Arts center, it was announced Monday that a member of a band that was supposed to be a major part of this fall’s scuttled Oceans Calling music festival will play a solo show. An Evening With Marc Roberge will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 10.

The singer-songwriter is the lead vocalist of rock act O.A.R., which helped curate Oceans Calling (which was canceled at the last minute due to the remnants of Hurricane Ian). Roberge and the group were set to perform their own set at the festival, as well as lead an all-star jam session with various participants.

Tickets were set to go on sale at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 16, for An Evening With Marc Roberge. The concert featuring the frontman of the rock band O.A.R. will take place at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 10, 2023.

In Lewes, the Cinema Art Theater (located north of Midway on southbound Route One) was packed for most of last week while it played host to the 24th annual Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival.

It will be the site of a music event Saturday, Nov. 19, when Boston folk-rock performer Antje Duvekot plays music from her various CDs after a 7 p.m. opening set by local songstress Cal Toner ($15, $30, $45).

This is one of the pop-up shows being presented by The Listening Booth, which is the brainchild of local concert promoter Marissa Levy Lerer (who hopes to eventually open a standalone venue with that same name).

Back in OC, the date has been announced for the annual holiday event with the very long name — the Ocean 98 Listener & Seacrets Customer Appreciation Christmas Party. While the musical performers have not yet been unveiled, the action is set to take place 5-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Seacrets. Admission is free, but patrons will be asked to bring an unwrapped toy for the Toys For Tots charity.
