INDIAN RIVER – A 54-point first half, a 32-point halftime lead, and every player available scoring points.

Daryl Vizina has seen some strong offensive nights since taking over as Inland Lakes varsity girls basketball coach a few years back, but Wednesday night’s 75-35 home victory over Forest Area was the best of the bunch.

“This was without question the best offensive performance from a team that I have ever coached,” said Vizina. “Every player scored. Low turnovers. We were incredibly unselfish. I don’t know what our shooting percentage is yet, but it was likely at or near 50 percent. The fact that we had 75 points and had a running clock at the start of the third quarter speaks to our offensive efficiency.”

Building a 29-11 lead after an outstanding first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs (11-4, 8-2 Ski Valley Conference) followed it up with a 25-point second and took a commanding 54-22 advantage into halftime.

Senior Ryann Clancy was one of three Bulldogs to reach double figures on the night, scoring a team-high 13 points, while senior Natalie Wandrie netted 11 and freshman Chloe Robinson tallied 10.

Marissa Kolly finished with eight points, Taylor Jones scored seven, Ashley Murray had five, Tara Clancy, Brooklyn LaBrecque and Jenna Stubbs each added four, and Lauren Fenstermaker chipped in with two.

Forest Area’s Desjanea Perkins led all scorers with 17 points.

While the offense was terrific on Wednesday, Vizina would still like to see improvement on the defensive side of the ball from his team.

“Defensively, we are not where we need to be, yet,” Vizina said. “Fortunately, we have a few weeks to address that before the postseason.”

In a 64-33 victory at Bellaire on Thursday, Jan. 26, Wandrie led the Bulldogs with 26 points, while Ryann Clancy had nine, Tara Clancy netted eight, and LaBrecque finished with six.

Jacey Somers paced Bellaire with 21 points.
