Officers work with postal service to get 50 pounds of stolen mail returned to owners

Two suspects are accused of stealing 50 pounds of mail that they got from mailboxes, the Stallings Police Department said Tuesday in a Facebook post.

Officers were called to a suspicious vehicle on Industrial Drive early on Monday, which led to the finding.

There were 28 victims from Stallings, the police department said.

Channel 9′s Gina Esposito spoke with David Alfaro with Formula Euro. He says he had no idea someone stole his business’ mail until a police officer showed up at his door.

“He asked me if I was missing any mail, and I said not that I know of,” Alfaro said. “I asked him why, and he’s like, ‘Oh we caught some people stealing mail.’”

That suspicious vehicle was stopped just outside of Alfaro’s business. Officers found loads of stolen mail from all across Union County.

Two people were arrested, according to police. Stephanie Aubus and James McIntyre face charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods. Police said the pair would take mail straight from mailboxes.

Alfaro tells Esposito he isn’t sure what mail of his was stolen, but he knows for certain that it couldn’t have been anything too important.

“The only mail we do get are people soliciting things, maybe a couple of letters here or there,” Alfaro said. “Everything is online; I pay my bills online, statements online.”

Police had planned to meet with U.S. Postal Inspectors on Wednesday to discuss the next steps in the case, and possible federal charges for the suspects.

Officers will be working with the U.S. Postal Service to get the mail returned.
