Here are the official pairings for 2022 Ohio high school playoff first-round games

The second season for high school football is about to kick off.

The OHSAA announced first-round playoff matchups Oct. 23. This is the second year of 16 teams in each of 28 regions qualifying, so for 448 teams, the dream of a state championship begins Oct. 28 and concludes Dec. 1-3 with seven champions.

Reaching Week 11 is a habit to some, such as Pickerington Central, which has made the playoffs every year since 2006. And then there are the teams that had breakthrough seasons, such as Thomas Worthington, which went 6-4 to post its first winning season since 1999 and earn the first home playoff game in program history.

“It feels a little extra special this year because we ended up being in the top eight, and we’re able to get a home game,” said coach Mike Picetti, whose eighth-seeded Cardinals will play host to No. 9 Hilliard Bradley in Division I, Region 3. “We’ve done a lot of good stuff this year and hopefully we can continue on with that. But you never want to look at what you’ve done until you’re done doing it. These guys have put themselves in positions that haven’t been (done) at this high school in years. You can sense the excitement … and it’s something that should be celebrated.”
