Editor's Note: The Craven County Board of Elections completed canvassing on Friday and the July 26 city of New Bern runoff election results are official.

The remaining board of aldermen seats, which includes the seat for New Bern mayor, Ward 1 and Ward 2 aldermen were officially finalized Friday morning.

With the Craven County Board of Elections finalizing the July 26 runoff election results, current Ward 6 Alderman Jeffrey Odham is the official winner and will become the city of New Bern's next mayor. Odham defeated former New Bern police chief Toussaint Summers by 211 votes.

The final vote tallies have Odham finishing the election with 3,191 votes while Summers finished with 2,980 votes.

Summers originally defeated Odham during the May 17 election by four votes but did not receive 50% of the total vote during that race. Odham requested the runoff as his victory is the second runoff election he has won to serve on the board — this time for the mayor's seat.
