It's official: Wilmington is getting a second Target store. Here's what we know.
After months of speculation surrounding a second Target coming to Wilmington, more information regarding the corporation has finally come to light.
New Hanover County confirmed that it received an email from Vice President of Development for Big V Property Group, Greg Dobur, in December noting that the company had closed on a contract with the Minneapolis-based retail giant.Big V Property Group owns The Village at Myrtle Grove at 5511 Carolina Beach Road. The 74,370-square-foot site is already home to major tenants, including Home Depot, Staples, Hallmark and Massage Envy.
"Seeing this project advance from a vision to reality is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved," said Dobur in a statement to the media. "Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who participated in this project. Their collaboration and hard work paved the way for this exciting new chapter at The Village at Myrtle Grove."
Rumors of the second Target began spreading through the community when Big V Property Group submitted plans over a year ago for a 149,214-square-foot retail building at 5613 Carolina Beach Road.
Now, it’s confirmed that the area is welcoming a 128,000-square-foot Target at the intersection of Carolina Beach and Piner roads in Monkey Junction. The StarNews has not been able to confirm when the new store will open.
Wilmington’s only other Target opened in 1998 at 4711 New Centre Drive and is undergoing a 23,000-square-foot expansion to the already 124,122-square-foot store.
