Officials Say 7 Dead After Mass Shooting in California's Half Moon Bay

Seven people were killed, and one person was injured during a mass shooting in California’s Half Moon Bay on Monday January 23, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s office said in a press conference that the shooting took place across two separate scenes in Half Moon Bay.

Four victims with gunshot wounds were found dead by sheriff’s deputies at around 2:22 pm at a nursery along San Mateo Road. Another shooting victim was taken to Stanford Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after, three more victims were found dead at another nursery on Cabrillo Highway South.

Police identified the suspect as 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident Chunli Zhao, who was taken into custody without incident at about 4:40 pm after he was found in his vehicle in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office.
