The body of a man who suffered fatal injuries at Lake Forest’s Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve was found about a half a mile away on Lake Michigan’s shoreline early Saturday.

Highland Park police were called to the 0-100 block of Cliff Road on Lake Michigan’s shoreline for a report of an unconscious person. There, they found a dead man whose injuries triggered a call to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, according to a statement from Sgt. Chris Covelli of the task force.

Police were able to determine the location the man was hurt was 117 Sheridan Rd., Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve, in unincorporated Lake Forest, about a half a mile away.

Lake County Forest Preserve police also responded and were taking lead in the death investigation, according to Covelli. The man’s name and cause of death were not given.

The forest preserve police and the task force were “actively investigating” and Covelli said there were no indications the public is in danger.
