Officials: Suspicious mail at Cobb County offices a false alarm

Dec. 12—MARIETTA — Marietta officials said a suspicious package reported at the Cobb County Government Building at 100 Cherokee St. Monday morning turned out to be a false alarm.

According to Lt. Mark Howard of the Marietta Fire Department, a county employee working on the third floor of the building discovered a white powdery substance while opening mail.

Howard said a hazmat team tested the substance and determined it was harmless. Howard added that one person was exposed to the substance and two people were checked for symptoms and determined to be unharmed by the powder, though an ambulance was on standby at the scene.

Howard said Marietta Fire would be turning over the case to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office. First responders to the scene departed shortly after noon.
