WEST MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — Most accident investigations would be finished or nearly so by now, but more than two days after one person died in a 13-care pileup in the eastbound lanes of Route 30 here, the accident reconstruction process continues.

West Manchester Township Police Chief John Snyder confirmed Thursday what was visually evident Tuesday — a white box truck had collided with other vehicles — but otherwise said it remained too early to conclude or speculate anything else.

“This is the most complicated car accident we’ve had,” Snyder said, not only in his six years leading the department but also in the decades-long careers of other police on the township’s force.

Both lanes of the road remained closed for about 10 hours Tuesday, well beyond when rescue efforts had ended, so crash reconstructionists could use advanced digital scanning equipment to document everything at the scene and continue performing computer-assisted recreations of the crash after the road reopened.

Snyder said since then, additional video recordings in the area have also emerged, which will help with the investigation. But he said whereas most crash investigations are complete within a week after the crash, this one could take considerably longer because of the complexity.
