Offset has pushed back against the claim that Cardi B and Black rappers wearing Birkin bags have devalued the brand

Offset is tired of the ongoing conversation about who is allowed to purchase a Birkin bag.

Birkin bags have been a trending topic lately as celebrities flaunt them and fans debate on if the bag is real or fake. But Offset had a message to anyone who has something to say about who can carry a Birkin.

“Stop letting people on the internet tell ya’ll who can get a Birkin at the store, and how many Birkin’s you can get. Black people having access to luxury shouldn’t be a debate…by the way hip hop starts the trends !,” he posted to Instagram. The post featured his wife, Cardi B.

Online trolls have been making comments about rap artists like the City Girls and Cardi B wearing Birkin bags. Some commenters say these women are reducing the value of the bags or that they are simply rocking fake bags because there is no way a female rapper could afford a bag that starts at $10,000.

A customer service representative at Hermes confirmed to theGrio that a limited number of Birkin bags are produced and that the most basic bag starts at 10K. They also confirmed that there aren’t many in the physical boutiques and that in order to purchase one you must be on the “wish list.”

The conversation erupted online last week when fellow rapper Saweetie posted a message to her followers saying, “If he not getting you a Birkin, if he not paying for your bills, then throw that n - - - a back to the streets,” per New York Post.

Cardi B took to social media recently with a video to her followers saying they should not feel the need to follow the crowd and break their bank account for a Birkin.

“Let me tell you something: if you’re a regular girl you don’t gotta break your neck to have a Birkin. A Birkin don’t make you. A n—– don’t give a f— if you have a Birkin or Aldo purse. They mixes that fashion with the Zara and the H&M amazingly. So don’t ever feel like you gotta compare yourself. Don’t compare yourself to nobody [on] the internet. This internet s— is fake… You still a bad f—ing bitch. Period,” she said.
