Ohio BCI investigating fatal shooting by police in Middletown

One person is dead after being shot by police during a traffic stop Saturday evening in Middletown.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations has been called to look into the events surrounding the shooting, which was at the Walmart on Towne Boulevard, Ohio Attorney General's Office spokesman Steve Irwin said.

A Middletown Division of Police press release says around 5:19 p.m., officers fired at a person in the car during the traffic stop, but does not say how many officers were shooting.

Per Ohio BCI policy, the bureau does not release the identities of officers involved and leaves it up to the department to make that information public.

The Enquirer has requested the names of the officers involved and their personnel files.

This report will be updated.
