New Ohio BMV kiosk allows drivers to renew, print vehicle registration at Meijer in Stow

An Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles service allowing drivers to renew and print vehicle registration at self-serve kiosks has added a station accessible to residents of Summit and Portage counties.

The pilot project, Ohio BMV Express, was introduced in October with nine kiosks statewide Now, there are 18 self-service kiosks — with six located in Northeast Ohio, BMV Registrar Charles Norman said in a statement.

"The BMV is always looking for ways to improve services and offer more conveniences to our customers," he said.

Kiosks are located at Meijer grocery stores in Stow, Lorain, Mentor and Avon. There are also kiosks at the Medina BMV located on Niorth Court Street as well as an E-Check station in Westlake. For all locations, the BMV has a map online.

Kiosks do not accept cash or check and cannot update your address or car insurance.

With the kiosk, customers can:

  • Renew and print an existing vehicle registration and sticker for one or two years.

  • Print an existing vehicle registration and sticker.

  • Print a duplicate registration and sticker.

  • Check for valid E-Check emissions.

To use the kiosk, customers need:

  • Their vehicle plate number and last four digits of Social Security number, OR,

  • Driver's license number, date of birth, first initial of last name and last four digits of Social Security number, OR,

  • Driver's license, which will be scanned at the kiosk.

"You don’t need to take a number and wait in line. The average transaction takes less than two minutes," the BMV website reads. "After a successful transaction, a new vehicle registration card and license plate sticker prints immediately."
