Happy Monday, Cincinnati. Enterprise reporter Patricia Gallagher Newberry back on the bridge beat.
During my teaching years, I coached students to be polite but persistent in their reporting. I employed that approach with Michael Schweitzer, who manages and co-owns Longworth Hall.
I asked Schweitzer for an interview in June 2022 about how the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project would impact Longworth.
The next month, he said yes, then no, to an interview.
“Every time the media mention Longworth Hall and the bridge, it impacts our ability to retain tenants,” he told me more than once during a year of emails and phone calls.
He’d talk, he said, when he had an official offer on Longworth.
When that finally came earlier this month, he agreed to a sit-down.
The result is today’s story about Ohio’s plan to buy Longworth and remove part of it for bridge work. Polite and persistent only got me so far, though. He agreed we could photograph the iconic building − but not him.
