Ohio Department of Job and Family Services release updated unemployment data

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released updated data on unemployment claims filed in Ohio last week.

These statistics were shared with the U.S Department of Labor, according to the spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS).

The week of December 11th through December 17th, residents in Ohio filed 11,262 initial traditional unemployment claims, which was 1,815 fewer than the week before, the spokesperson said. Approximately 2,067 of those have been flagged for further identity verification to ensure their legitimacy.

Ohioans filed 46,549 continued traditional unemployment claims last week, filing 3,770 more claims than the week prior, the spokesperson said. The total number of traditional claims filed last week was 57,811.

Throughout the month of November, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 2.4%, with Ohio’s labor force participation rate at 61.3%, according to the ODJFS spokesperson. The national unemployment rate through the month of November was 3.7% and the national labor force participation rate was 62.1%.

Residents can search for and apply for job openings on the OhioMeansJobs website, or call their local OhioMeansJobs center, the spokesperson said.

Employers can contact the nearest OhioMeansJobs center to find candidates for jobs, screen resumes, learn about federally funded tax credits or training programs, the spokesperson said. You can find contact information for the nearest job center on their website under the ‘FIND A JOB CENTER’ tab at the bottom of the page.
