The White House is blocking strict new coronavirus vaccine guidelines proposed by the Food and Drug Administration due to a provision that would likely prevent any vaccine from being authorized before the November election, several people familiar with the matter told The New York Times. The guidelines are intended to reassure the public that coronavirus vaccines are being held to a common standard, the Times reports. Per the guidelines, this would have to happen before authorization is granted for a vaccine, with FDA officials saying it's necessary to determine if there are side effects and to make sure the vaccine protects people for longer than a few weeks.
In 1982, Joe Biden voted for a constitutional amendment to allow individual states to overturn Roe v. Wade. 30 years later in his 2012 debate with Paul Ryan, Biden claimed to believe that life begins at conception, but said that he would not “impose” that belief on other Americans. It is especially shameful to abdicate for reasons of political self-preservation, as Biden did on that debate stage.

The announcement of Sen. Kamala Harris as the Democratic vice presidential nominee – the first Black woman and Asian person on a major party's presidential ticket – was met with more racist and sexist stereotyping in media coverage compared to both major parties' 2016 vice presidential nominees, according to a new report. One quarter of coverage of Harris included racist or sexist tropes, such as describing the senator as too "uncooperative" or "ambitious," according to the report from Time's Up Now, the political arm of TIME'S UP, which advocates to end harassment and discrimination in the workplace. “It demonstrates with numbers how normal we think it is for white men to run for these offices, and how unusual or subject to criticism we think it is for a woman of color to run for those offices,” said Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME'S UP Now.

One of the most fearsome “yakuza” underworld groups in Japan has been told it cannot hand out sweets to trick-or-treating children at Halloween. The local authority was acting on a proposal from the prefectural police, which has been waging a war of attrition against the largest “yakuza” group in Japan.
During my senior year of high school, I went home after school on a Friday in March, excited that we might have two weeks off. Even then I didn't think it was realistic to expect the full break, and I expected to go back to school the following Monday. But that Friday would be my last real day of high school ever.
Good campaigns make it clear to TV networks that their candidates aren't going to walk into an ambush, so the network makes sure to screen out fringe figures and/or, in this case, people who have a clear anti-Biden agenda. This was not a real Miami town hall. Those would have a lot more screaming.
MSNBC's Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski has questioned if President Donald Trump would face “manslaughter” charges for potentially infecting the Secret Service and members of the White House with Covid-19. The question was posed on Tuesday as Ms Brzezinksi and guests on Morning Joe discussed the president's dramatic journey back to the White House after he was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday. “Maybe the president is immune from everything, because he said, 'Am I immune now?'” she said.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Gov. Kristi Noem claimed Monday that South Dakota has given the rest of the country an example of how to navigate a pandemic without heavy-handed government mandates. During a special legislative session in Pierre, Noem told lawmakers that while her resistance to statewide stay-at-home orders has drawn criticism, it's also provided a different approach to managing the pandemic than those taken in other states. "As you all might imagine, these last seven months have been quite lonely at times," Noem said.

Lithuania and Poland have decided to recall their ambassadors to Belarus for consultations in the hope of reducing regional tensions, the Lithuanian foreign minister said on Monday, days after they dismissed a demand from Minsk that they do so. Belarus accuses the two neighbouring countries of meddling in its affairs by hosting exiled opposition leaders and refusing to recognise the victory of veteran leader Alexander Lukashenko in a disupted Aug. 9 presidential election. Lukashenko's opponents accuse him of rigging the vote, which he denies.
Donald Trump and Kayleigh McEnany Photo illustration by Salon/Getty Images White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany earlier this weekclaimed that several absentee ballots in Wisconsin had been found abandoned in a ditch as proof that President Donald Trump was right to question the integrity of mail-in ballots. However, that story has now completely fallen apart. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Meagan Wolfe, director of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, said during a news conference this week that "no Wisconsin absentee ballots were found" in a mail bag that was discovered last week in a ditch in Greenville, Wisconsin, although she said she didn't know if any out-of-state b...
