La Salle High School junior linebacker Tyrese Price was down on the field in serious pain after a collision on a kickoff return, coach Pat McLaughlin told our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati.

The team’s trainers and Green Township EMS stabilized Price and got him to the hospital.

“He was down for probably 15 to 20 minutes,” McLaughlin said. “At that point, both teams were kneeling. We all knew it was pretty serious.”

Medics transported Price to Cincinnati Children’s where he underwent surgery. The school says it went well but he is looking at a long road to recovery, WCPO said.

McLaughlin said he would likely be in the hospital for “a couple of weeks.”
