A New Richmond High School staff member interrupted a meeting between the school’s resource officer and Principal Joe Stewart to report that he unintentionally sent a link copied from Amazon for a sex toy rather than the intended link to a school survey, the incident report from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office wrote, according to WCPO.

The email was predominantly sent to senior class members.

The staff member attempted to rectify the mistake by sending another notification warning students to not click the link due to it being “spam,” the report continued.

However, the warning came too late and students opened the link for the “inappropriate item,” the school’s resource office stated.

As procedure, school officials contacted the IT department and the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.

The IT department informed that there were “no additional concerns at this point” on the staff member’s school-issued laptop. No viruses, spyware, or malware were detected in the email or the staff member’s laptop.

IT officials told the responding deputy that the mistaken was likely “user error,” the incident report said.

The responding deputy also contacted Clermont County assistant prosecutor who affirmed that the issue was an internal administration issue that did not warrant a criminal offense case.

“This hyperlink was clearly sent by mistake, furthermore, sent to hundreds of recipients and not a single minor/student and/or staff member,” deputy wrote.

New Richmond Schools Superintendent Tracey Miller informed that parents in the school district were made aware of the email, but declined to comment further on the incident “as this is a personnel issue.”
