Ohio Highway Patrol will build new $4.18 million district headquarters in Bucyrus

The Bucyrus post of the Ohio Highway Patrol will have a new building soon.

According to a news release from the office of state Rep. Riordan McClain, R-Upper Sandusky, the existing building will be demolished, making room for a new structure. The project will cost $4.18 million.

The post, commanded by Lt. Ty Skaggs, at 3665 Ohio 4, Bucyrus, is headquarters of the patrol's District 2.

“This building has long served the area but no longer meets the needs of our brave men and women serving in the patrol,” McClain said in the news release. “If you’ve visited with Lt. Skaggs and his team like I have, you realize the need is very real. This investment will allow the patrol to continue serving our communities with excellence long into the future.”

A spokesman for the post said Thursday that troopers are temporarily working out of a building next door to the post.

The current building has been in use for more than 60 years, according to McClain's news release.
