Ohio Lifts Some Restrictions On Bars, Restaurants

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio has lifted capacity restrictions on bars and restaurants throughout the state.

In an order signed Wednesday, interim health director Lance Himes lifted restrictions limiting restaurants' and bars' capacity.

"The sacrifices and incredible efforts that Ohioans have undertaken, make it possible to begin to lift the mandatory requirements and restrictions that were needed during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic," the order said.

The state's 10 p.m. alcohol curfew will remain in place, as will social distancing and face covering requirements. Customers will still be required to wear face coverings when moving around an establishment. Only when a customer is seated and dining can they remove their mask.

Open areas in bars and restaurants, including those offering billiards, arcade games, dancing, etc., are allowed to reopen. Self-service stations are also allowed to reopen.

Tables at restaurants should be limited to 10 people or fewer. Catering and banquet services should be limited to 300 persons. Live entertainment will be permitted at all establishments.

The state still recommends barriers be erected at queuing areas to prevent Ohioans from massing together. However, that is a recommendation and not a direct order.
