Ohio man wins big in Michigan with scratch-off ticket

It's not every day someone can travel to a new state and win $1 million off a scratch-off ticket.

It's a different story for one Ohio man, who visited Michigan for work and ended up buying his lucky ticket at Gerth’s Beef & Deli in Temperance, Michigan, 40 miles southeast of Ann Arbor.

“I have been working in Michigan recently and I always stop at the same store to purchase a ticket while I’m here,” the man, who asked to remain anonymous, said in a written statement. “I scratched the ticket when I got in my car and went numb when I saw I won $1 million. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!”

He bought the Triple Million instant ticket for $10 and won the game's top prize.

The man decided to receive his prize in a one-time lump sum payment of $693,000 rather than 30 annuity payments for the full amount. The winner plans to invest in real estate with his new winnings.

Since the game launched in December, players have won more than $35 million playing Triple Million.

Players can win prizes starting at $10 and then up to $1 million. The Michigan Lottery says there are more than $12 million prizes left with the ticket with two $10,000 prizes and 19 $2,000 prizes.

In 2019, more than $1.8 billion in prizes were awarded to instant game players.
