These Ohio schools made U.S. News & World Report's lists of best colleges

Ohio students don't need to look far for top-tier higher education programs, according to newly released rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The magazine's lists of best colleges include several in-state institutions, including Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, Baldwin Wallace University, Cedarville University and Ohio Northern University.

The lists were released Monday.

In the Midwest, John Carroll (located in the Cleveland suburb of University Heights) tied at No. 2 with Missouri's Truman State University for best regional university.

Baldwin Wallace (located in the Cleveland suburb of Berea) ranked at No. 4, tied with Minnesota's Augsburg University and Iowa's Dordt University, for best undergraduate teaching among Midwestern universities.

Ohio Northern (located in Ada in northwest Ohio) tied at No. 4 with Missouri's College of the Ozarks for the best regional colleges in the Midwest.

Case Western Reserve and Ohio State University tied with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Washington at No. 5 for best nursing programs nationally.

On the list of best Midwestern schools for veterans, Baldwin Wallace came in at No. 3 and Cedarville (in Greene County in west central Ohio) came in at No. 4.

Ohio's neighboring states also had several colleges and universities rank high in U.S. News & World Report's updated lists.

Indiana schools listed in U.S. News & World Report's best colleges lists

Butler University topped the list of best universities in the Midwest region. The University of Evansville came in at No. 5 on that list. Butler also topped the regional Midwest list for best undergraduate teaching, and for best Midwestern schools for veterans.

Martin University in Indianapolis was ranked No. 1 among national liberal arts colleges with the most debt. About 94% of first-year students at the school receive federal loans, according to U.S. World & News Report, and the median graduate indebtedness of federal loans at Martin is $41,604.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (near Terre Haute in Vigo County) was ranked No. 5 in the Midwest for the best value.

Vincennes University ranked No. 5 for least debt in the Midwest. About 54% of students receive federal student loans at the school, and the median graduate indebtedness of federal loans at Vincennes is $12,596. Taylor University (located in Upland) ranked No. 2 for the best regional colleges in the Midwest.

Kentucky schools listed in U.S. News & World Report's best college lists

Berea College ranked No. 1 for liberal arts colleges with the least debt nationally. About 10% of first-year students at the school receive federal student loans, and the median graduate indebtedness of federal loans is $3,700.

Michigan schools listed in U.S. News & World Report's best college lists

Andrews University In Berrien Springs topped the list for the most ethnically diverse campus. According to U.S. News & World Report, the university has a 77% diversity index.

Calvin University in Grand Rapids ranked No. 4 for best universities in the Midwest.

Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie and Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City tied at No. 1 for top public schools among regional colleges in the Midwest.

University of Michigan ‒ Ann Arbor was ranked No. 3 for top public schools among national universities. It also ranked No. 3 for best nursing program nationally, and at No. 4 for best business program.

University of Michigan ‒ Dearborn was ranked No. 5 for top public schools among regional universities in the Midwest.

Pennsylvania schools listed in U.S. News & World Report's best college lists

Carnegie Mellon University topped the list for best computer science program nationally, and came in at No. 5 (tied with New York University) for best business program. The Pittsburgh university also ranked at No. 4 for most international students, with 22% of its undergraduate students being international.

Swarthmore College in suburban Philadelphia was ranked No. 4 for best national liberal arts colleges and No. 5 nationally for liberal arts colleges with the best value. It also ranked No. 4 for most ethnically diverse among liberal arts colleges.

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia ranked No. 1 for best nursing program nationally, and for best business program.
