Ohio State basketball hosts Darryn Peterson, five others on unofficial visits

With the 2023 recruiting class all wrapped up, the Ohio State men’s basketball program hosted six recruits on unofficial visits for the football program’s home game against Wisconsin on Sept. 24.

As coach Chris Holtmann and assistants Jake Diebler, Jack Owens and Mike Netti spent time at the north end of Ohio Stadium, the six recruits – four from the 2025 class, two from the 2024 class – watched warmups, took photos and got to spend some time with Ohio State product Jae’Sean Tate.

It's unknown what sizes the upcoming recruiting classes will become. Ohio State has a four-man class committed for 2023, which gives the Buckeyes a projected full roster for next season. Forecasting beyond that, in an era of the one-time transfer rule with immediate eligibility, is tricky at best this far out. The Buckeyes do not yet have any 2024 or 2025 commitments, but here are six players who were on campus today. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

RJ Greer

Recruiting rankings are sparce for the 2025 class, but the shooting guard from Springboro, Ohio, has already reported offers from Michigan, Cincinnati, Ohio and Florida. Listed at 6-4, 163 pounds, Greer is unranked by the national recruiting services.

Darren Harris

A top-50 prospect in the 2024 class, Harris landed an offer from the Buckeyes while on his visit. A 6-6, 195-pound small forward from Fairfax (Virginia) Paul VI Catholic, Harris is the top prospect from his state, the No. 15 small forward nationally and the No. 51 overall recruit according to the 247Sports.com composite database.

Duke, Maryland, Georgetown and others are known to have offered him. Harris is planning an official visit to Duke this fall.

Trey McKenney

The 6-3, 220-pound small forward from Orchard Lake (Michigan) St. Mary’s is ranked No. 17 nationally and tops in his state by ESPN. He has taken visits to Michigan State and Illinois and also holds offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri, Arizona State and others.

Malachi Moreno

An unranked recruit in the 2024 class, the 6-11 Moreno is a center from Georgetown (Kentucky) Great Crossing. Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, Cincinnati and Missouri are known to have offered.

Darryn Peterson

The 6-5, 195-pound guard from Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) Christian Academy is considered among the nation’s top prospects in his class. Peterson is the first 2025 prospect to receive an offer from Kentucky and he also holds offers from Indiana, Texas, West Virginia, Baylor, Arkansas and others. The Buckeyes offered him last November.

ESPN ranks him as the No. 4 prospect in his class and a five-star player.

A.J. Swinton

A four-star small forward in the 2024 class, the 6-6, 180-pound Swinton landed an offer from the Buckeyes while on his visit. Entering his junior season at Mouth of Wilson (Virginia) Oak Hill Academy, Swinton is listed as the No. 5 prospect in his state, the No. 25 small forward in the nation and the overall No. 89 recruit.

Maryland, Virginia Tech, Xavier, Georgetown and others have offered Swinton, who states in his Twitter profile that he has a 7-2 wingspan.
