Ohio State football defensive lineman Darrion Henry-Young enters NCAA transfer portal
Ohio State defensive lineman Darrion Henry-Young has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed Monday.
A former four-star recruit from Cincinnati who was the second-highest ranked defensive prospect in the Buckeyes’ 2020 class, he appeared in only four games over two seasons.
His last appearance this fall was in the final non-conference game against Akron in late September, a 59-7 blowout victory for the Buckeyes that saw them put in underclassmen throughout the second half.
Henry-Young, who also played the previous week against Tulsa, saw a career-high 14 snaps against the Zips and logged a pair of quarterback pressures, according to data from Pro Football Focus. But he did not record any tackles or sacks in limited playing time in his time at Ohio State.
He appeared in two games when he debuted as a freshman in the coronavirus pandemic-shortened season in 2020.
Henry-Young is the Buckeyes' fifth scholarship player to enter the portal since the regular season ended last month, following quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Jack Miller, as well as cornerback Ryan Watts and safety Craig Young.
This is the first full offseason in which players are eligible to transfer freely to other schools without having to sit out a season, a previous penalty that had limited roster movement.
In April, the NCAA expanded a one-time transfer exception to all varsity sports.
