What Ohio State football fans need to know about Georgia TE Brock Bowers

Ohio State football has had its fair share of success against opposing tight ends.

No tight end has recorded more than 55 yards against the Buckeyes' defense in 2022, while only one — Maryland's CJ Dippre — has scored a touchdown.

But Ohio State has not seen a tight end like Georgia's Brock Bowers.

Bowers is the Bulldogs' leading receiver, bringing in 726 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 52 receptions, and is coming off a six-reception game against LSC in the SEC Championship game, where he recorded 81 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Here's what you need to know about Bowers as he faces Ohio State's defense in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl Saturday.

Brock Bowers did not have an Ohio State football offer

Bowers was not the top tight end in the 2021 recruiting class.

The Napa, California native was a four-star tight end and the No. 105 player in the country, sitting behind both Clemson's Jake Briningstool and Nebraska's Thomas Fidone in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Bowers had offers from LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and USC, among others, but chose the Bulldogs in August 2020.

Bowers did not have an offer from Ohio State, who instead picked up four-star tight end Sam Hart.

Brock Bowers was an All-American as a freshman for UGA

Bowers proved to play a big role for Georgia's offense from the moment he started his freshman season.

The 6-foot-4 tight end brought in 56 receptions for 882 receiving yards as Georgia's leading receiver, finishing the season with 14 touchdowns while averaging 15.6 yards per touch.

Bowers finished as a first-team All-American for USA Today, ESPN.com and The Athletic, while taking home multiple Freshman of the Year awards.

Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington have accounted for over 30% of Georgia's receiving yards

Bowers and junior tight end Darnell Washington have been two of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett's favorite targets in the passing game.

Coming into the Peach Bowl ranked number one and number four in receptions, respectively, Bowers and Washington have combined for 1,143 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 78 catches.

Bowers and Washington's combined receiving yard total is 30.8% of Georgia's passing offense.
