Ohio State football ranked No. 2 behind Alabama in preseason AP Top 25 poll

The college football season is coming closer, and expectations for Ohio State remain sky high.

The Buckeyes are ranked No. 2 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll released Monday, behind No. 1 Alabama, which received 54 of 63 first-place votes. Ohio State also received six first-place votes, along with No. 3 Georgia, which has three first-place votes

Ohio State is one of four Big Ten teams in the preseason top-15, along with No. 8 Michigan, No. 15 Michigan State and No. 18 Wisconsin.

No. 2 Ohio State will open the season at home against No. 5 Notre Dame Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

In the football preseason USA Today AFCA Coaches Poll, Ohio State was ranked No. 2 behind No. 1 Alabama, receiving five first-place votes.

Heading into last season, Ohio State was ranked No. 4 behind Alabama, Oklahoma and Clemson but finished the season at No. 6 after regular-season losses to Oregon and Michigan.

Ohio State was last ranked No. 2 in the preseason AP poll in 2020, when it brought back Heisman finalist quarterback Justin Fields.

The Buckeyes last entered the season as No. 1 in 2015, coming off a national championship in 2014.
