Ohio State football RB TreVeyon Henderson named to Doak Walker Award watch list
After a record-breaking freshman year with Ohio State football, running back TreVeyon Henderson is getting his fair share of attention heading into the 2022 season.
Henderson was named to the 2022 Doak Walker Award preseason watch list Wednesday, given annually to the nation's top college running back.
Henderson was named a Doak Walker Award semifinalist in 2021.
No Ohio State running back has won the Doak Walker Award since 1995 when Eddie George took it and the Heisman Trophy home. George had set Ohio State single-season records with 1,927 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns that year.
Henderson emerged as the Buckeyes' top running back as a freshman, breaking Maurice Clarett's 19-year-old school record for most touchdowns recorded by a first-year player with 19, adding 1,560 all-purpose yards and averaging 7.4 yards per touch.
Henderson also broke Ohio State's freshman single-game rushing record against Tulane with 243 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Henderson is joined by nine other Big Ten running backs on the watch list including Wisconsin sophomore Braelon Allen, Michigan State senior Jarek Broussard, Illinois junior Chase Brown, Michigan junior Blake Corum, Northwestern senior Evan Hull, Minnesota senior Mohamed Ibrahim, Penn State sophomore Keyvone Lee, Wisconsin senior Chez Mellusi and Indiana senior Shaun Shivers.
Ten semifinalists will be named in November before three finalists are announced later in the month. The winner of the 2022 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
Henderson, along with Ohio State redshirt sophomore quarterback C.J. Stroud and junior wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, was previously named to the Maxwell Award watch list, given to college football's player of the year.
