Ohio State football strength coach Mickey Marotti signs new contract, receives pay raise
Ohio State strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti has signed a new three-year contract increasing his annual salary to $862,238.
Marotti, who holds an official title of assistant athletic director for football sports performance, received $821,179 as part of his base salary last year, along with $174,501 in bonuses for the Buckeyes’ appearance in the College Football Playoff.
A copy of the latest agreement was provided Thursday to The Dispatch in response to a public records request. It was finalized on Monday. Under the terms of the deal that runs through 2025, he is eligible for a raise in the remaining years.
The 5% pay raise for Marotti is in line with salary bumps given to the Buckeyes’ other assistant coaches this offseason. The collective salaries for the on-field football assistants will surpass $9 million this year.
Marotti has already been among the highest-paid strength and conditioning coaches at public schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Oklahoma State’s Rob Glass was the only one who made more than Marotti last season when he became the first strength coach to earn a $1 million salary. According to USA TODAY Sports' salaries database, the next highest-paid strength coach was Florida's Mark Hocke at $750,000.
Marotti has run the strength and conditioning program for Ohio State since he was hired by Urban Meyer in 2012 and remained in the role through Ryan Day's tenure. He had previously been Meyer’s strength coach at Florida.
