Ohio State football transfer portal tracker: Which players are leaving?

The first offseason transfer portal window in college football is now shut.

A newly established 45-day period for players to put their names into the portal closed on Jan. 18.

It brought a flurry of movement across the sport with more than 1,800 entering the portal, as tracked by the recruiting website On3.

There were coming and goings at Ohio State. Nine of the Buckeyes, including five scholarship players and four walk-ons, entered the portal over the six-plus weeks.

Ohio State also added five scholarship players and a walk-on to its roster, making up its largest class of incoming transfers since the introduction of the portal in 2018.

It had brought in three players on scholarship last offseason between safety Tanner McCalister of Oklahoma State, running back/linebacker Chip Trayanum of Arizona State and kicker Parker Lewis of Southern California.

Non-graduate transfers seeking immediate eligibility are to wait until the first two weeks of May before entering the portal.

Below is a rundown of the activity involving Ohio State from the initial portal window of the offseason.

Long snapper Mason Arnold: After entering the portal a day after the Buckeyes' loss to Georgia in a College Football Playoff semifinal, Arnold landed at Michigan State. He took over long-snapping duties at Ohio State last October when Bradley Robinson suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Safety Jantzen Dunn: Going into the portal last month, Dunn transferred to Kentucky. He played in six games over two seasons with the Buckeyes and largely appeared on special teams on kickoff coverage and punt return.

Wide receiver Blaize Exline: The walk-on from Salem entered the portal on Jan. 2. He did not appear in a game in one season with the prograam.

Defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste: His entry into the portal, coming earlier this month, resulted in Jean-Baptiste heading to Notre Dame and reuniting with former Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washington, who is the Irish's defensive line coach. A part of the Buckeyes' defensive end rotation in 2022, Jean-Baptiste totaled 18 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Cornerback Lloyd McFarquhar: A walk-on from Cleveland who had also entered the portal last offseason before remaining with the Buckeyes, McFarquhar appeared in a win over Rutgers in October. He has been with the program for five seasons.

Safety Jaylen Johnson: The first player from Ohio State to enter the portal was Johnson, a reserve safety who had not played for the Buckeyes in his two seasons with the program. An ACL injury sidelined the former three-star recruit from Cincinnati as a freshman, while a deep rotation at safety limited opportunities for snaps in his second season. He is reuniting with Matt Barnes at Memphis. A former defensive backs coach at OSU, Barnes is the Tiger's defensive coordinator.

Cornerback JK Johnson: After being a part-time starter in 2022, stepping in for Cameron Brown due to injury, Johnson entered the portal on Jan. 3. He had figured to compete with Jordan Hancock at the starting spot opposite Denzel Burke next fall before opting to move on. He he announced this week he is transferring to LSU.

Linebacker Teradja Mitchell: After entering the portal last month, Mitchell remained with the Buckeyes through the College Football Playoff, then headed to Florida for his final season of eligibility. He was a "super senior" in 2022, but qualified for a redshirt, giving him another year.

Punter Michael O'Shaugnessy: The former Ohio State back-up punter transferred to Michigan State with two seasons of eligibility remaining. O'Shaugnessy has one punt in 2022: a 41-yard punt against Rutgers.

Safety Ja’Had Carter: A veteran safety from Syracuse who was considered the top transfer at his position, Carter has transferred to the Buckeyes, a major pickup for a secondary that is losing two out of three starting safeties with Ronnie Hickman and Tanner McCalister.

Offensive lineman Vic Cutler: While starting at left tackle at Louisiana Monroe last season, Cutler also has starting experience at right tackle and center, providing Ohio State with some versatility as it rebuilds on the offensive line this offseason. He said he'll start out at center and compete for the starting spot vacated by Luke Wypler.

Quarterback Tristan Gebbia: After six seasons at stops at Oregon State and Nebraska, Gebbia is joining the Buckeyes. A backup in recent seasons with the Beavers, he is expected to provide depth and experience.

Cornerback Davison Igbinosun: The Buckeyes received a commitment from Igbinosun, one of the top transfer cornerbacks who was a freshman All-American at Mississippi, two weeks after the closing of the portal window. Igbinosun had put his name in the portal on Jan. 14.

Long snapper John Ferlmann: After two seasons at Arizona State, he announced last month he is transferring to Ohio State. He'll be in line to handle long snaps next season with Arnold entering the portal and Bradley Robinson's eligibility up.

Kicker Casey Magyar: A native of Dublin who spent a season at Kent State in 2021 before leaving last July, Magyar has joined the Buckeyes as a preferred walk-on.
