Ohio State men's tennis doubles team wins title; wrestling opens with victory

The Ohio State tennis doubles team of Robert Cash and Matej Vocel won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national title in San Diego on Sunday.

They earned a three-set victory (6-2, 6-4,10-7) over Stanford’s Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert. That followed wins over duos from Arkansas, Kentucky, Baylor and Georgia Tech.

Vocel and Cash finished this fall 14-0 with six wins over ranked opponents.

Meanwhile, former Buckeye Kyle Seelig, a 2021 graduate, won his first pro title in an International Tennis Federation M15 tournament in Heraklion, Greece, beating Great Britain's Ryan James Storrie 6-1, 7-5. Seelig came into the week ranked 748 in the world rankings.

Ohio State wrestling opens with a win

No. 8 Ohio State began the 2021-22 dual wrestling season with a 23-12 win over No. 14 North Carolina at the Covelli Center on Sunday.

Powell native Carson Kharchla won at 165 pounds over Sonny Santiago 10-2. Heavyweight Tate Orndorff beat Brandon Whitman 2-0. In the 149-pound weight class, top-ranked Sammy Sasso's point for riding time advantage allowed him to edge No. 5 Zach Sherman 4-3.

There were 2,875 fans on hand for the event.

Ohio State will next take part in the Intercollegiate Open in Tiffin, Ohio, Nov. 14 before traveling to Virginia Tech Nov. 19 for a dual vs. the No. 6 Hokies.
