Ohio State QB Justin Fields declares for 2021 NFL draft

Since the Atlanta Falcons have officially hired Arthur Smith as head coach, and are reportedly in the process of agreeing to terms with Terry Fontenot for the team’s general manager vacancy, fans are looking ahead to the upcoming NFL draft.

After a 4-12 season, the Falcons landed the No. 4 overall pick, putting the team in position to potentially select a new franchise quarterback. But with veteran Matt Ryan still playing good football and under contract through 2023, the team could be better served to pass on a QB in favor of a defensive need or an offensive lineman.

If Atlanta does use the pick on a quarterback, though, one possible option could be Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Following a solid year that ended in a loss to Alabama in the National Championship, Fields, a junior, is officially off to the NFL. He posted the following message from his Twitter account on Monday.

Fields dominated in the first round of the College Football Playoff against Clemson, outplaying this year’s sure-fire No. 1 overall pick, Trevor Lawrence, in a six-touchdown performance.

This season, Fields threw for 2,100 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, six interceptions, while completing 70.2 percent of his passes. He would add 383 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns.
