Ohio State sells out Peach Bowl ticket allotment in days

Ohio State has sold out its allotment of tickets for the College Football Playoff semifinal against Georgia.

Gary Stokan, the chief executive for the Peach Bowl, which is hosting the New Year’s Eve matchup, said Tuesday that the teams were allotted 13,000 tickets with 500 of those going to the marching band.

It took only a matter of days for the Buckeyes to move their allotment. Stokan said they were all sold by last Wednesday after being made available on Dec. 5. OSU reserved the allotted tickets for season-ticket holders, faculty and staff and students.

“I think there's going to be a tremendous amount of Buckeyes in the stadium and around the stadium as well,” Stokan said.

Georgia, whose campus in Athens is situated less than a two-hour drive from the semifinal site, also sold out its ticket allotment last week.

The appearance in Atlanta is a first for Ohio State, adding to the demand in addition to the heightened stakes of the playoff. Until the Peach Bowl became a part of the New Year’s Six games in 2014, it largely pitted teams from the Atlantic Coast and Southeastern conferences.

A majority of the seats at Mercedes-Benz Stadium were not, though, given out to the schools. Stokan said a general allotment went on sale earlier this year and were sold out in July. The stadium's capacity is expected to approach 79,000 after standing-room-only seats were added.

When Ohio State was in the Rose Bowl last season after missing out on the playoff, it sold 13,000 of its allotted 20,000 tickets, returning the rest of the tickets.
