Ohio State's last tie with Michigan came in 1992

After a two-game losing streak at Wisconsin and against Illinois at Ohio Stadium, Ohio State, led by fifth-year head coach John Cooper, won its next five games against Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota and Indiana, outscoring opponents 140-49 in those games.

Coming into the season finale as the No. 17 team in the country, Ohio State hosted No. 6 Michigan to try and change the momentum of the series, having lost each of the last four games against the Wolverines. Instead, Ohio State and Michigan did something that has happened only five other times in the series.

For the first time since 1973, Ohio State and Michigan tied.

Trailing 13-3 after the first three quarters, quarterback Kirk Herbstreit and the Buckeyes offense scored 10 unanswered points on a five-yard touchdown pass to Greg Beatty and a 30-yard field goal by Tim Williams.

Herbstreit finished the game with 271 yards and a touchdown, completing 28 of his 46 pass attempts. Brian Stablein was Ohio State's leading receiver, bringing in 12 catches for 111 yards.

Running back Robert Smith finished with 61 yards on 20 carries, averaging 3.1 yards per rush.

Giving the ball back to Michigan with 1:03 left in the game, defensive back Walter Taylor secured a Todd Collins interception at the 45-yard line to secure the tie.

"For this football team to go out there today and lay it on the line after all the adversity we've been through, I just couldn't be more proud," Cooper said after the game according to Ohio State's game notes. "We got a break here and a break there and I thought we were going to win the game. Give Michigan credit, they are going to the Rose Bowl."

Ohio State finished the 1992 season in the Citrus Bowl, losing to Georgia 21-14.

Since the tie in 1992, Ohio State has won 19 of its last 28 meetings with Michigan.
