Ohio State vs. Michigan is in 50 days. How did the Buckeyes do in 'The Game' 50 years ago?

Ohio State football's next bout with rival Michigan is coming quickly.

The Buckeyes' Nov. 26 matchup at home against the Wolverines is in 50 days, with Ohio State aiming to respond after losing its first game against Michigan since the 2011 season last year in Ann Arbor.

With 50 days before Ohio State's regular-season finale, here's a look at what the Buckeyes' matchup with Michigan looked like 50 years ago.

Ohio State beat Michigan for final win of 1972 season

Twenty two seasons into Woody Hayes' 28-year tenure with Ohio State, the Buckeyes earned their ninth win of the season at home, capping off a one-loss regular season with a 14-11 win against Michigan Nov. 25, 1972.

Trailing by a field goal in the second quarter, Ohio State full back Champ Henson set the tone for the Buckeye offense, scoring on a one-yard touchdown to give the Buckeyes a lead it wouldn't lose.

Early in the third quarter, running back Archie Griffin, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 1974 and 1975, scored one of his three touchdowns of the 1972 season, scoring on a 30-yard run. He finished the game with 76 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown.

Full back Ed Shuttlesworth scored Michigan's only touchdown of the day on a one-yard run later in the third quarter, adding a two-point conversion on a pass to Clint Haslerig from Dennis Franklin.

While the Wolverines recorded 21 first downs and 344 yards of offense on 83 plays, Ohio State was able to stop Bo Schembechler's Michigan offense three times at the goal line to secure the Buckeyes' three-point victory and a Big Ten title.
