Ohio State’s 2022 season-opener against Notre Dame will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, the Buckeyes announced on Tuesday.

The game, which is airing on ABC, will be the seventh all-time against the Fighting Irish and the first one in Columbus since 1995, a 45-26 Buckeyes victory.

Ohio State last played Notre Dame on Jan. 1, 2016 in the Fiesta Bowl. The Buckeyes won 44-28.

This year’s opener is the first of a two-game series. OSU will play Notre Dame in South Bend on Sept. 23, 2023.

The game this fall mark the regular-season debut of Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, a former star linebacker for the Buckeyes. He succeeds Brian Kelly, who left last December to take the LSU job. Freeman coached the Fighting Irish in a 37-35 loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.

The television assignment for Ohio State's September 24th game against Wisconsin was also revealed Tuesday, and the Buckeyes-Badgers matchup will be broadcast by ABC as well. The kickoff time for that contest has yet to be determined.

It was announced Monday that kickoff for the Ohio State-Michigan game on Nov. 26 will be at noon. Fox will televise that game.
