Ohio Supreme Court rejects citizen group's last-ditch bid to block Menards near Montrose

A group opposed to the construction of a Menards store and commercial complex in Granger Township has exhausted its appeals in a bid to block the project after the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to take up the case.

The Ohio Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal from Citizens Action Group, upholding the Medina County Court of Common Pleas' 2021 ruling that the community group did not have legal standing to file a case.

Menard Inc. had earlier received township approval for the first phase of The Market at Medina Line, a retail complex constructed and anchored by Menard Inc., which would be on a 125-acre site along Route 18 just across the Summit County line. Citizens Action Group, however, argued that the planned complex failed to meet the township's zoning resolution and could potentially cause environmental harm.

The Ohio Ninth Judicial District Court of Appeals upheld the ruling by Medina court's ruling in September.

Representatives from Menard Inc. and Citizens Action Group could not be reached for comment. Richard Pace, one of the township trustees, said he had no comment.
