Ohio voters say inflation, ‘preserving democracy’ top concerns this election

A recent poll found that Ohioans find inflation to be the top voting issue this election.

News Center 7′s Haley Kosik stopped by polls in Montgomery County to ask voters what the most important issues were to them this election.

“Food prices, inflation, gas prices, climate change... that’s a big one,” Andrew Wolford of Dayton said.

All those issues Wolford listed are also top of mind for most Ohioans this election, according to a Marist Poll.

Inflation is the top issue, with 36 percent of Ohio voters concerned with just how expensive everything is.

“I’ve been very concerned lately, becoming anxious and worried about the state of the world, economy and everything,” Wolford said.

The next highest concern for Ohioans is preserving democracy at 27 percent.

“There is no unity here, concerned with the direction of a very, very conservative Supreme Court that’s moving toward perhaps the eradication of other rights that have been important to many people,” Barry Mancz of Kettering said.

Mancz mentioned the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Anna Bench agreed with Mancz, she’s a freshman at Ohio State University, and this is her second time voting.

“I think it’s especially important for us to vote just because we’re going to be the generation to decide things in the next few years,” Bench said.

As a younger voter, she’s concerned for her future.

“It’s definitely concerning coming out of college and trying to find a good job that’s going to be able to support me,” she said.

People have until Nov. 7 to vote early or you can request an absentee ballot, Election Day is Nov. 8.
