Ohori's Coffee expands gift offerings with Ohori's Home

Jul. 17—Ohori's Coffee Roasters has gone into the merchandise business.

On Monday, Ohori's Home — Gift, Nourish, Adorn will open next door to the Ohori's Cafe at 1098 1/2 St. Francis Drive.

All the merchandise that had been in the cafes at St. Francis (really on Pen Road) and at Luna Santa Fe, 505 Cerrillos Road, is now at Ohori's Home, said Tai Ayers, who owns Ohori's with her husband and her parents.

"We doubled the seating in both cafes," Ayers said.

St. Francis had nine seats and now has 20, while Luna increased from eight to 16 seats.

"It's very hard for a barista to deal with merchandise," Ayers said. "They are two different business models."

The Ayers family has owned Ohori's since 2001. The family in November bought the St. Francis property, which has two 1,500-square-foot spaces for the cafe and retail store.

Ohori's Home expands on the merchandise from the cafes with more home and kitchen wares and adding jewelry, pet toys and bowls while focusing on coffee and tea brewing gear.

"I envision a a community gift store," Ayers said. "It's going to open with the coffee shop."

Ohori's Home hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, though Sunday hours may be shorter. It will have a couch and coffee table for customers to use.

"You can come in and meet with a friend on the couch," she said.
