OHSAA releases girls basketball tournament brackets

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its statewide tournament brackets for girls basketball on Sunday afternoon. All 10 area teams received their place in their respective brackets, as well as times and dates for each game.

Paint Valley, the lone Division IV team in the area, received the No. 4 seeding in the Southeast 1 bracket. The Bearcats also open their bracket with home-court advantage, as their first game of the tournament will be played at their own gymnasium. They will host No. 13 Trimble at 7:00 p.m. Feb. 15.

Piketon, Huntington and Zane Trace were all seeded into the Southeast 1 bracket for Division III. Huntington and Zane Trace will even open up the tournament by facing off against each other in the sectional semifinals. Both teams will face each other for the third time this season at 7 p.m. at Waverly High School on Feb. 15. Piketon, on the other hand, will travel to face Lynchburg-Clay at home on Feb. 18 in the sectional finals. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Westfall and Adena were both placed in the Division III Southeast 2 bracket, and Adena even earned the No. 5 seed. It will host either River Valley or Crooksville in a sectional finals matchup on Feb. 18. Westfall received the No. 26 seed and will face Wellston on Feb. 15 at Wellston High School. If Westfall defeats Wellston, it will travel to face No. 2 Portsmouth West on Feb. 18.

The final Division III team in the area, Southeastern, is the lone local team to be seeded into the Southeast 3 bracket. Southeastern, the No. 21 seed, will host No. 28 Northwest in a sectional semifinal game on Feb. 15. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Southeastern High School.

Both Unioto and Waverly were given top-10 seedings in their respective Division II brackets. Unioto earned the No. 2 seed and will host the winner of a sectional semifinal between No. 15 Vinton County and No. 18 Gallia Academy. The Shermans will host the victor at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at Unioto High School.

Waverly, on the other hand, received the No. 9 seeding in the Southeast 1 bracket and will travel to take on No. 8 Circleville at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at Circleville High School.

Finally, Chillicothe earned the No. 23 seed in the Division I Central 1 bracket. It will face the winner of a sectional semifinal game between Teays Valley and Hilliard Bradley. The sectional final is scheduled for Feb. 18 at 1 p.m., although a location had not been determined as of Sunday afternoon.
