Edmond's Holiday Hop 2022

Edmond's Holiday Hop is 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at three nearby historical places in Edmond for free holiday crafts, cocoa, Santa photos and the opportunity to see a live model trains by the Toy Train Operating Society and Oklahoma N-Rail.

Locations and activities include:

  • Edmond History Museum (431 S Boulevard): Toy train demonstration and children’s activities. Plus, view the traveling exhibit, “Smoke Over Oklahoma: The Railroad Photographs of Preston George.”

  • 1889 Territorial Schoolhouse (124 E Second St.): Historical games and crafts.

  • Rodkey Victorian House (410 S Littler): Hot cocoa, Santa photos

Holiday Hop is hosted by the Edmond Historical Preservation Trust and the Edmond History Museum. Old-fashioned and homemade presents are available in the museum gift shop for purchase. Attendees are invited to save 10% on all gift shop purchases, including holiday and handmade gifts.

CV Tech students receive grant

Students enrolled at Canadian Valley Technology Center’s El Reno Campus have been awarded a $7,500 grant by the Lemelson-MIT program. InvenTeams is an initiative of the Lemelson-MIT program, which administers grants each year to high school teams who invent technological solutions to real-world problems.

CV Tech’s team of student inventors has received a $7,500 grant to take a proposed project from concept to reality, courtesy of a foundation closely linked to MIT. CV Tech’s InvenTeam has conceived a backpack alarm intended to alert students when important school items are missing. The device is meant to help keep students organized and to curb stress.

Over the next eight months, the team must build a working prototype that will be showcased at a technical review in February and then again as a final prototype during EurekaFest®, an invention celebration in June 2023, at the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Miller Mantels & Trees Christmas tour

The 13th Annual Mantels & Trees Tour will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10. The tour is one of the primary fundraisers to help support Miller Neighborhood Association.

The Miller Neighborhood, established in 1906 by George Miller who farmed the land before developing, is on the list of National Register of Historic Places. The boulevards on NW 12, and N Miller Boulevard, were originally laid out to use for trolley car lines, eventually only running along NW 12, and connecting the residential development with downtown Oklahoma City.

This is a self guided tour, and the attendees can start at any of the participating homes located at 2629 NW 15, 2500 NW 14, 2505 NW 14, 2513 NW 13, 2600 NW 13, 2628 W Park Place, and 1221 N Miller Blvd.

VIBES Edmond's First Thursdays holiday edition

EDMOND — VIBES premieres its first-ever Holiday VIBES from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in downtown Edmond to encourage the community to shop local and artist made to make this holiday season a creative, memorable experience for everyone.

The event will highlight seasonal goodies, holiday treats, and gifts at businesses along the Broadway corridor from Second Street to Main Street in downtown Edmond. Plus, over 40 visual artists will set up on sidewalks and inside shops with artwork and the perfect gifts items for sale.

Holiday VIBES features several outdoor public performing groups, including the Five Year Gap, Sentimental Social Club, and Vearl T. The merriment continues with caroling by Edmond Youth Chorus, photo ops with a balloon installation by OKC Balloon Bar, special sales, and seasonal promotions.

Lineup of Norman events

NORMAN — From dances to tree lightings and fireworks, the city of Norman Parks & Recreation Department has a special lineup of recreational events planned for community members this season.

HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES

  • The Andrews Park Community Tree Lighting begins at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at 201 W Daws St. There will be holiday music by Sooner Theatre Studio students, Artsy Learning Center students, and a visit from Santa, who will help light the tree! About 6 p.m., participants will carol from Andrews Park to the Norman Public Library Central (103 W Acres) and enjoy hot cocoa, treats, crafts and photos with Santa and Frosty.

  • The Sixth Annual Winterfest at Legacy Park, 1898 Legacy Park Drive, begins at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Celebrate the holidays with Santa, frosty, live music, hot drinks, adult beverages, crafts and a special appearance from a green-haired Who. Festivities include Jazz renditions from  Adam Aguilar & the Steve Pruitt Jazz Band and a fireworks show over Legacy Park at 7 p.m.

  • Letters to Santa going directly to the North Pole will be at the Norman Recreation Centers, Senior Citizens Center and the Little Axe Community Center. Children fourth grade and younger can drop off their letters until Dec. 17. Each letter should include: First and last name, age, mailing address and Christmas wish list. Guardians are encouraged to look over letters before dropping them off. Place the letter and a self-addressed, stamped envelope in Santa's mailbox. Make sure to include a return address so Santa can reply.

  • Zoom with Santa, sign up to Zoom with Santa to get those last-minute wishes in. There are evening and morning times available on Dec. 21-22, so schedule your very own meeting with Santa! Sign up at  www.signupgenius.com/go/zoomwithsanta2022.

  • Parks and Recreation also will offer two youth camps for kids ages 5-11. The 12th Avenue Recreation Center, located at 1701 12th Ave. NE, hosts “Santa’s Night Out” 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 12 with a fee of $15 per child. The Irving Recreation Center, located at 125 Vicksburg, will host “Drop and Shop: Parents Day Out” 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 18. Holiday crafts, reindeer games, lunch and snacks will be provided.
