OKC Thunder trades Vit Krejci to Atlanta Hawks for Maurice Harkless, NBA draft pick

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded guard Vit Krejci to the Atlanta Hawks for forward Maurice Harkless and a 2029 second-round draft pick on Tuesday, the team announced.

Krejci averaged 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 30 games last season as a rookie for the Thunder. OKC acquired Krejci in a November 2020 trade from the Washington Wizards, but he did not play for the Thunder that season.

Harkless is a 6-foot-7, 220-pound power forward who has played for six teams - not including Atlanta - during a 10-year career. The St. John's product averaged 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 47 games last season for Sacramento. He has also played for Orlando, Portland, the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Miami.

The trade also amends the conditions of a previously traded 2025 second-round pick for the Thunder. That pick will now be top-40 protected.

Former OU star Shepard suffers knee injury

Veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on the New York Giants' final offensive play in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys, coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday.

Daboll had indicated after Monday night's game that the injury to New York's leading receiver was serious.

Shepard, who starred for OU and Heritage Hall High School, was jogging down the right hashmark when he suddenly fell to the artificial turf at the MetLife Stadium and grabbed his knee with both hands. He was taken off the field on a cart.

This is the second major injury for the 29-year-old, who is the longest-tenured player on the Giants. He tore an Achilles tendon late last season and managed to rehabilitate it and play on opening day, catching a 65-yard touchdown pass.

BROWNS: Cleveland star defensive end Myles Garrett was released from a hospital late Monday night after he was injured when he rolled over his Porsche while driving on a rural road following practice. Garrett suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck. Garrett’s playing status for this week’s game in Atlanta is unknown.

Extra points

OKC DODGERS: Gavin Stone pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 11 to lead Oklahoma City to a 5-1 baseball victory over Salt Lake on Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. OKC (82-66) held the Bees scoreless through seven innings, and four pitchers combine for a season-high 17 strikeouts. James Outman and Devin Mann homered for the Dodgers, who played Salt Lake (70-78) again Tuesday night.

GOLF: Phil Mickelson, the driving force among PGA Tour players in the rival LIV Golf series, and three other players asked a federal judge Tuesday to remove their names from the antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour. Former OSU star Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Ian Poulter filed separately to have their names removed. Mickelson's decision was not a surprise. He had said two weeks ago to SI.com that he no longer needed to be involved in the lawsuit now that LIV Golf has joined as a plaintiff.

OKLAHOMA STATE: The Cowboys wrestling team opens its season Nov. 12 in Pennsylvania, where it will take on Lehigh and Bucknell. The first home dual is Nov. 18 against Wyoming. The annual Bedlam matches vs. Oklahoma are scheduled for Dec. 11 in Norman and Feb. 16 in Stillwater.
