Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma recognized associates for outstanding work development, accomplishments and excellent service with the nonprofit’s annual awards.

Eric Dixon received the Achiever of the Year Award. This award recognizes an outstanding person who has shown great progress and accomplishment in overcoming barriers to employment while still benefiting from the Goodwill work environment or receiving services to support employment in the community.

Heather Heath received the Pam Henry Award. This award was presented to Heath for dedication to helping those with disabilities overcome challenges to employment and improving life for others.

Opal Broussard, 35 years, and Vivian Miller, 30 years, are part of Goodwill’s contract janitorial team and were recognized for their milestones of longest-standing employees in the entire organization. Jack Johnson also received the Janitorial Employee of the Year Award.

Two Edmond sport leaders honored

Sports Destination Management, the leading national publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, has announced the 2022 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism Award.

The award is given to local events bringing new visitors to Edmond that contribute to the economy by dining, shopping and staying during their visit. This year’s winners are responsible for contributing a boost of over $2.42 billion to the national economy over the past year.

The OSSAA 5A/6A State Swimming Championship, held at the Edmond Schools Aquatic Center at Mitch Park, had a local economic impact estimated at $1.4 million.

The National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA), partnered with the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, hosted 1,430 contestants from all over the country for 7 days of competition and had a local economic impact estimated at $19.3.

Mayor Darrell Davis will recognize Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association and National Little Britches Rodeo Association at the Annual Tourism Holiday Party.

Rose State Student Union wins awards

Rose State College's student union, which opened in 2020, received several architectural awards and was officially dedicated as the Jeanie Webb Student Union in honor of Rose State’s current and first female president.

The new student union features offices for enrollment management and student services, a coffee shop and food court, in addition to a book store and meeting spaces for students.

The American School and University Magazine awarded Beck Design with an Outstanding Design Award for the architecture of the student union. In addition, the Association of General Contractors of Oklahoma awarded CMSWillowbrook with the Education Build Oklahoma Award for the construction of the student union.
