OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center gynecologic oncologist Dr. Christina Washington has been selected for the Robert A. Winn Career Development Award and will join the second cohort of the Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program.

The Diversity in Clinical Trials program is designed with inclusivity every step of the way and addresses the disparity and inequity in clinical trials. Washington will receive training in investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials and in community outreach and engagement to encourage and facilitate underrepresented populations to participate in clinical trials which work towards enhancing and improving their health outcomes.

Meals on Wheels volunteer honored

Meals on Wheels Oklahoma City volunteer Vicky McDowell is being honored for her dedication and commitment to service with one year of free vehicle maintenance by Jiffy Lube, to ensure her car remains road-ready year-round on her meal delivery routes.

Every Friday, for the past two and a half years, McDowell spent two and a half hours driving routes to deliver over 20 nutritious meals to seniors in need.

“Volunteering for Meals on Wheels Oklahoma City is more than just delivering meals, it’s about the relationships you build,” McDowell said. “On my clients’ birthdays, I deliver them a birthday napkin with their meals, and their overjoyed reaction to a such a small act of kindness is what makes my volunteer work so rewarding.”

2022 Visions Awards

Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits (OKCNP) will honor six individuals at the 2022 Visions Awards on Giving Nov. 29 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

The Visions Awards honors those who act as agents of change in the community, providing leadership to enrich and enliven those whom they serve. They inspire others with their conviction and drive, give a voice to those without, and act with the highest integrity to provide Oklahomans with resources otherwise not available.

This year's honorees are:

Joli Sanders received the Rodney Bivens Innovation Award for bringing new, dynamic and innovative ideas that inspired groundbreaking changes.

Ron Bruner received the Pat Potts Visionary Award for his dedicated focus, tenacity and leadership that inspired the success of a singular organization in carrying out its charitable mission.

Sherry Harlin received the Inasmuch Special Recognition Award for demonstrating a dedication to mission above and beyond her call to duty, changed lives of those they serve and shown leadership to peers with limited resources in difficult circumstances.

Glenda Love-Williams received the Shirley Shanker Volunteer Award for her day after day dedication to provide that important set of helping hands. Named after an Oklahoma legend of volunteering, the late Shirley Shanker, this award honors the ongoing work of a champion volunteer in the nonprofit sector.

Tom McDaniel received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to a lifetime of philanthropy and volunteer leadership to charitable causes and has been instrumental in the success of one or more charitable organizations.

Sarah Roberts received the President's Award as a special recognition of the President and CEO for achieving excellence in their missions.
