Oklahoma achievers: Rose State College honors alumni; Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Award

Rose State College honors alumni

Rose State College hosted an awards banquet to honor distinguished alumni who have made significant contributions to the college and the local community. This year, two distinguished alumni, Dr. Dean Fisher and John Primo, were inducted into the Rose State College Alumni Hall of Fame.

Dr. Dean Fisher, is a 1982 graduate and longtime former employee at Rose State. He holds an associate degree in general studies, a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history and a doctorate in higher education leadership. Dr. Fisher is the current president of the College of Southern Idaho.

Primo is a 1987 graduate and continued to serve the college full-time for 35 years until his retirement as vice president of information technology in 2022. Primo served 12 years in the Air Force Reserve as a non-commissioned officer. In addition, Primo is the author of nine novels and established an endowed scholarship with the Rose State College Foundation in name of his late wife, April Primo.

OSU-OKC STEM scholarships awarded

The OSU-OKC STEM Division has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships to students in its programs for the 2022 fall semester.

Michael Ghanaati and Joe Adams, students from the Power Transmission & Distribution Technology program, Surveying Technology, Construction Technology and Architecture programs were awarded scholarships through funds administered by the OSU Foundation.

STEM division program enrollment scholarships allow students to focus on their education and graduate with industry-ready skills.

2022 Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Lifetime Achievement Award

City of Norman Solid Waste Division Manager Bret Scovill will be recognized for his outstanding work in sanitation and recycling operations throughout the state of Oklahoma. Scovill will be named the 2022 Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

Keep Oklahoma Beautiful is a nonprofit organization and state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, working to empower citizens to help improve communities through litter prevention, waste reduction and beautification.

Scovill, who turns 70 in February, currently oversees 50 employees for six types of operations and said he has no plans of quitting any time soon. He is unwavering in his team’s responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and attests that they have exceptionally rewarding jobs that allow them to make differences in the day-to-day lives of residents and business owners.
