Some Oklahoma City schools requiring clear backpacks for 2023-24 school year

As students gear up to return to school, Oklahoma City Public Schools has implemented a backpack rule aimed at streamlining security measures.

Some schools will require or highly encourage students to wear clear, mesh and/or no backpacks.

The decision comes as the district upgrades its metal detectors at all middle and high schools to enhance the entry and exit process. The rules are recommended by principals on a school-by-school basis.

No student will be turned away for not having the appropriate backpack. If a student already purchased a backpack and is unable to purchase a new one, the school will provide them with one.
