Oklahoma City teens chase, attack family of undocumented immigrants with BB guns

A family of undocumented immigrants was injured Monday after teens wielding BB guns allegedly chased them around an Oklahoma City neighborhood.

The man and his three children, two of whom were reportedly shot during the incident, were found hiding from their attackers in a neighbor's backyard, according to KFOR-TV.

One of the children, who was shot in the leg, was only 6 years old. The father was shot in the shoulder, and his 11-year-old son was shot in the arm.

The neighbor who found the family, identified only by her surname, Quintero, said she came home to find three teenagers running out from behind her house with what she originally thought were real guns.

Quintero then checked her backyard, where she found the man and her sons.

"I was terrified," Quintero told KFOR-TV. "I'm still terrified. The little boy was holding his arm. I said, 'Let me take you to the hospital, he's bleeding.'"

The family was originally afraid to go to the hospital or report the incident to police, due to their undocumented status. They are originally from Honduras.

After Quintero drove the family back home, she called the police herself.

"You can be legal or illegal, it doesn't matter," Quintero told KFOR-TV. "You cannot be victims of these crimes."

Oklahoma City has not been known to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to Newsweek.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt tweeted his support for the town's immigrant communities last month, following President Trump's comments that four U.S. congresswomen — all of whom were American citizens — should "go back" to their countries.

"Oklahoma City is a diverse community where 60 percent of our children are non-white. Many of our residents are immigrants. Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants," Holt tweeted. "We are working closely with our Native community to honor those who were truly the first Americans."
