Oklahoma County Commissioners on Monday approved a proposal to settle litigation against JUUL Labs Inc. over allegations the electronic cigarette manufacturer marketed its products to teens.

Under the terms of the deal approved Monday, Oklahoma County will receive $428,928.61 (before attorneys' fees, cases costs and a common benefits expense deduction).

A letter from the attorneys representing the county stated that amount was determined primarily using identified numbers of school-age youths living within each participating jurisdiction. So far, 46 counties, 11 cities and one county health agency are involved in the litigation.

"I know this item doesn't give us the ability to allocate the money," Commissioner Carrie Blumert said, "but I'll just put this out there that I would love to allocate some of this money to drug court, if possible."

Commissioners unanimously approved the proposed settlement.
